Robinson Everett Life Award
|
JAG Awards
The Judge Advocates Association, the Judge Advocates Foundation, and the American Bar Association each present a number of awards to Judge Advocates, current, former, and retired, each year. Below is a general description of each, with links to more detailed information: Chief Justice Marshall Lifetime Achievement Award: The Chief Justice John Marshall Lifetime Achievement Award is the Judge Advocate Foundation's highest award. The Foundation established the Award commemorating Chief Justice Marshall to honor an individual who once served as a judge advocate, left active duty military service, and subsequently made great contributions and achievements outside the military legal system. Robinson O. Everett Distinguished Life Service Award: The Robinson O. Everett Distinguished Life Service Award honors individuals who have demonstrated a lifetime of (1) dedicated service to the principles of military and veterans law and justice and (2) devotion to and furtherance of the mission and objectives of the Association and its members. The Award was first presented to Chief Judge Robinson O. Everett of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. The Association then received permission from Judge Everett to name the award after him. The Award is the Association's highest award. Major General William K. Suter Distinguished Judicial Service Award: The Judge Advocates Foundation presents its Major General William K. Suter Distinguished Judicial Service Award to a trial or appellate judge serving in the Active, Reserve, or Guard Force. The annual recipient of the award is selected based on their military and judicial accomplishments, unquestionable integrity, and service to the community at large. The award is named after Major General Suter who has been serving as the Clerk of the U.S. Supreme Court since 1991. Major General Suter is highly recognized for his commitment to the judicial community at large and the five branches of the military services. This is a new award created in 2007. Outstanding Career Armed Services Attorney Award: Annually, the JAA recognizes outstanding achievements of career attorneys serving as Judge Advocates. The awards are presented annually at a banquet held in the National Capital Region. The services are invited to nominate candidates in both active and reserve status. The Judge Advocates General for each of the services, along with the Staff Judge Advocate to the Commandant of the Marine Corps, are invited to participate in recognizing the award winners. Nominees must be 35 years of age, or older, and are evaluated on professional accomplishments, service to community, leadership, service to the legal profession and development of subordinates. American Bar Association Awards: Various entities within the American Bar Association have awards to recognize the contributions of military lawyers. |
